How to Find Business Records in Utah
Searching for Business Records in Utah
In the State of Utah, certain important business information is made
available for searching and viewing online by the Lieutenant Governor.
Here are a few tips on accessing this information over the internet.
What Records Are Maintained by the Utah Lieutenant Governor?
When corporations and similar business entities are formed, they must
file documentation of their formation, as well as periodic status
updates. Information from these records is available online.
Additionally, UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) filings may be searched
online. These records detail security interests that are held in one
partys collateral by another party.
How Can I Search for Records Maintained by the Utah Lieutenant Governor?
To begin your search for Utah business records, begin by visiting the
Utah Lieutenant Governors website, located at http://www.utah.gov/ltgovernor/#.
Then select the option at the top of the page marked Online Services.
From the Online Services page, select the option marked Business Online
Services. Under the heading Business Searches, you will find a
listing of the numerous search options to assist you in locating
business information.
To search for information about a Utah business entity, from the
Business Online Services page, select the option marked Business
Entity Search. This will take you to a search page where you may input
the name of the business entity for which you wish to search. It is not
necessary to know the full name of the business entity, since entering
the beginning of the name will also turn up the entity name in the
search results. After entering the search terms, click on the button
marked Submit Query.
The search results will be returned in list form, which includes the
name of each business entity, as well as the type, city and status. At
the right of each line of information is a button marked Detail, which
can be clicked for additional information about that business entity.
Clicking the Detail button will take you to a page dedicated to the
business entity in question, providing information about the business
entity number, registration date, state of origin, address, date of last
renewal, delinquent date and information about the registered agent.
There is also a button at the bottom of the page permitting you to
purchase a Certificate of Existence for that business entity if you
choose.
If you do not know the name of a business, but you do know the name of
an individual associated with that business, you can search by the name
of the individual. Be aware that there is a charge to use this service.
To do so, from the Business Online Services page, select the option
marked Registered Principal Search. This will take you to a screen
providing some information about the search, and also a button marked
Start RPS that will take you to the search screen. On the search
screen, you will be able to input the name of the individual for which
you wish to search. Searching by last name only is perfectly acceptable.
After selecting the Search Principal button, you will be taken to a
screen where you can select your payment method before proceeding to the
search results.
To search for UCC filings, from the Business Online Services page,
select UCC Search/Certified Search. On the search page, you can select
whether you wish to search by an individual debtor name, an organization
debtor name (the beginning of the name or an exact search) or by filing
number or business entity number. Unless you know the number of the
exact file or corporate debtor in question, one of the name search
options is the best choice. After inputting your search criteria, select
Search. The search results will be returned in a list, including the
names of the debtors and secured parties, filing numbers and dates.
There is also an option by each entry marked view record details.
Clicking on this option will take you to a screen where you can view the
collateral description, whether the security interest is active or not,
and any lapse date. You can also select a button to view the filing
history, which consists of a list of related filings.
