How to Find Business Records in Pennsylvania State
Pennsylvania State Business Records
If you need to find records on companies that are registered in
Pennsylvania, then the Pennsylvania Department of State website is a
great place to start. You can easily search this database by following
the steps outlined below.
How to Search for Pennsylvania State Business Records
1. Start your Pennsylvania business records search by going to the
Pennsylvania Department of State website, located at
https://www.dos.beta.state.pa.us
2. Once on the homepage, you will see a site menu on the left hand side
of the screen. This site menu will be split into two main sections --
DOS Information and Areas of Interest. Under the Areas of Interest
section, you will want to click on the Corporations link (this link
will be the third one down, under this section). You will then be
transported to the Corporations page.
3. Once on the Corporations page, there will also be a site menu on
the left hand side of this page. On this site menu, you want to look for
the Searchable Corporations Database link.
4. Clicking on this link will then take you to the corporate database
page. On the corporate database page, you will be given three options:
1) to perform a general name search, 2) to perform an old name search,
or 3) to perform an orphan name search.
General Name Search - By performing a general name search, you can enter
in the entity number or the entity name. Doing this will bring up a list
of businesses, which are registered in Pennsylvania, that match your
search query. Your results will include each entitys ID number, their
name, the type of entity (fictitious name, corporation, LLC, etc) their
city, and their country.
Old Name Search - An old name search is when you search for a name that
a company used to go by, however, they have a different name now. By
performing an old name search, you can enter in a business name that you
would like to search for. Doing this will bring up a list of businesses,
which are registered in Pennsylvania, that match your search query. Your
results will include each entitys ID number, their old name, the date
the name was filed.
Orphan Name Search - The search is to find non-profit business that have
been transferred to the Department of State. By performing an orphan
name search, you can enter in a business name that you would like to
search for. Doing this will bring up a list of businesses, which are
registered in Pennsylvania, that match your search query. Your results
will include each entitys county, their filing date, their corporation
type (articles of incorporation - non-profit), and their name.
5. When you have found the company you are looking for, click on their
entity ID number or the entity name to obtain more information on that
particular business. You will then be taken the entity details page. The
information on this page will include the entitys type, their name,
their number, the type of entity, their filing date, whether there is a
letter of consent, the entitys address, their county, their
jurisdiction, the entitys purpose, whether there is a limited authority
assigned to the company, any and all old names, the company owners, and
the list of documents that have been filed by the company (including the
document type, the document filing date, and any comments on file).
Details on orphan name searches will usually be more limited (county,
name, filing date, type, and status).
There is absolutely no fee to perform the searches listed above and
viewing the information on a companys details page is also free. These
public records can assist you when making business or purchasing
decisions concerning a company registered in Pennsylvania.
